An almost impenetrable textured paint finish,\u00a0<strong>a correctly applied Raptor lining will protect any vehicle from water, salt, stains, scratches, rust corrosion and stone chips.<\/strong><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9476f52 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9476f52\" data-element_type=\"text-editor.default\"><div class=\"elementor-widget-container\"><div class=\"elementor-text-editor elementor-clearfix\"><p>Here,\u00a0<strong>Adam, a paintless dent repair specialist by trade<\/strong>, works with colleague and friend,\u00a0<strong>Wayne Beardmore, owner of Damage Undone<\/strong>, to\u00a0<strong>finish the Raptor respray on the roof panel of his Jeep.<\/strong>\u00a0The duo share their expert preparation, masking and painting tips:<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3659467 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"3659467\" data-element_type=\"text-editor.default\"><div class=\"elementor-widget-container\"><div class=\"elementor-text-editor elementor-clearfix\"><p>When using Raptor refinishing paints, the coarseness \u2013 and therefore the level of protection \u2013 can be built up depending on the function of the vehicle or the desired aesthetic look. The thicker the paint mix, the more heavily textured and durable the finish, finer textures can be produced by adding more thinners to the paint mix. The first stage of preparation is to\u00a0<strong>carefully remove these and any residual glue<\/strong>\u00a0using either a plastic handheld scrapper and glue remover or a rubber candy wheel. Ahead of any sanding process, Wayne recommends\u00a0<strong>masking off all surrounding panels with Q1<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0Premium Masking Tape<\/strong>. Wayne knows from experience that combining a number of premium masking products will not only provide optimal protection for already finished panels, but can also improve the finish of the coat you are about to apply.<\/p><p>To mask up this Jeep, Wayne\u2019s first product of choice is\u00a0<strong>Q1<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u2019s Trim Tape<\/strong>. He gets Adam to insert the hard, plastic edge\u00a0<strong>between the roof and the windscreen trim<\/strong>, before removing the adhesive backing and folding the tape down onto the glass. This provides a soft blend for the Raptor between the roof and the windscreen.<\/p><p>To mask the boot shut, his product of choice is\u00a0<strong>Q1<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u2019s 13mm soft edge foam masking tape<\/strong>, which he runs along the inner edge of the boot lid before closing it and\u00a0<strong>creating a soft edge between the roof and boot lid.<\/strong>\u00a0Foam masking tape offers a swift easy to use solution to masking up and sealing gaps, whilst creating a soft paint finish; something which is of particular advantage with textured finishes that would look particularly unpleasant with a hard paint edge.<\/p><p><strong>To protect the rest of the car<\/strong>, Wayne prefers\u00a0<strong>Q1<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u2019s electrostatically charged protective film with Corona treatment<\/strong>, which prevents drips, flaking and draws away any dust particles from the panel throughout the painting process. At this stage thinners can be applied to the mix if a finer texture is desired. Using a Schutz spray gun, Wayne evenly applies two coats to a 3 \u2013 3.5bar thickness to match the rest of the re-sprayed body work.
